He who wants a rose must respect the thorn.
- Persian proverb
This proverb sounds like something you'd overhear in a Persian parlor in old times.
Suiter says potential father-in-law: "Yes, well, I really don't mind that your daughter's cooking nearly killed me or that she has a deep love for raising chimps and scorpions, nor even that she lets her animals eat from the table. I don't mind her table manners, or housecleaning skills (or lack thereof in these cases). I don't mind the warts or the fact that I may have to widen a few doorways. But the language barrier thing is kinda getting to me!
Potential father-in-law: "Well, my son, he who wants a rose must respect the thorn."
Sounds like a cop-out to me!
